They are available in a range of different prices and features, but all perform the same basic function: adjustment of the sound level at different frequencies. Learning how to hook up an equalizer to your stereo system or vehicle is a straightforward process requiring a few simple considerations.

The personal branding process always needs to start with understanding your strengths, your inner talent.

Knowing this is critical to understanding who you are as a person and what you are good at doing. Odds are you were working in your strengths zone. Once you know your strengths, you can begin to align who you are, with what you do. So what is the difference between StrengthsFinder and StandOut? Good question. The two are very complimentary.

It helps you understand you. This is the question that the StandOut assessment seeks to provide an answer to by providing suggestions for potential careers and suggestions on how you can win in various roles. Find out how the StandOut assessment can help you. Take the personal brand quiz and see how well you StandOut from the competition. Plan on taking a half hour to complete the StandOut assessment.

You will get details for each strength role individually as well as combined, which I found interesting and unique. Unlike the StrengthsFinder assessment, you get to see how you ranked for the remaining seven strength roles. This is so closely correlated to my number one strength theme on the StrengthsFinder assessment; Strategic.

If I wiggle the switches the signal cuts in and out. As I play with it I can yet restore the signal. When I take the unit apart, I don't see an easy or obvious solution. The sliders are for the most part covered which won't allow any type of intrusive cleaning. I can blow the contacts out with pressurized can air however i doubt that will make a difference.

Ideally I clean it with alcohol and air however I am not that sure this is a safe or even an effective solution. Cleaning with alcohol is useful, but it evaporates. You need some type of spray lubricant. I use a similar spray when some potentiometer interrupts. Its safety and gives a good results. I am trying to repair a Pioneer SG equalizer with a power supply problem, and could use the service manual if anyone has one I could upload. The sub is facing that back of the trunk.

You want it to punch but I hate that distortion you get at the low end of the "punch". They should be able to handle more and may not need the HPF. Also, if you have well powered, quality mids and tweets, personally, having your high's maxed out would sound too sharp to me and override alot of the frequencies "below" them, usually the guitar. And having the mids and highs maxed creates a really choatic sound.

Taking bumps initial setting and applying it is good start but the next step is to turn off your sub and try to milk the best sound of your speakers. Then add in the sub back in and round out the sound. I would use a CD from a rock band like the Smashing Pumpkins because their sound is pretty dynamic.

I've been told the best thing to use is a recording from the 's, when they just recorded the music and didn't digitally enchance what was played. Anyways, pick an Artist and set up your speakers so you can distinguish different instruments and can hear the range that each instrument plays AND maybe you'll even hear a part of the song you didn't notice was there before!

To me bass is there to fill out the sound and provide some oomphf. EDM and some rap has changed this, bass can be a defining part of the song but usually "too much" bass is there to cover up shoddy musicianship.

Electronics manufacturers have their own ideas about what a piece of gear should sound like, but EQ lets you have your say. Many of us listen to music while commuting or exercising, where the shape of the room or ambient noise can each have a nasty effect on how our music sounds.

An EQ can help. Not only do the natural sounds of the track respond uniquely to different EQ levels, but in the case of digital music, you may also need to cover imperfection introduced by certain file compression formats that can affect the overall audio quality. With these variables in play, an EQ serves an invaluable role for anyone serious about their jams.

Maybe you have a bass-heavy pair of headphones that you need to tone down a bit. Or perhaps you listen to a lot of EDM, but the treble is too sharp and needs to be pulled back.

At its most basic definition, an equalizer manipulates frequencies. The technology first took off as a piece of analog electronics that was initially used in recording studios before making its way into the home.

If used properly, EQ can smooth out audio for just the right touch, whether that means adding some beef to the low end, taking away some bite from the treble, or anything in between. Bass frequencies start on the left, with midrange frequencies in the middle and treble on the far right like a piano. If not, the following little snippet of Acoustics will probably come in handy.

Equalizers

All sounds — everything you hear — are essentially vibrations that we can visualize as waves moving up and down at different speeds, or frequencies. The faster the wave moves, the higher the pitch. For example, bass frequencies — such as those you hear in a hip-hop groove — move very slowly, while higher pitches treble like the chime of a triangle move very quickly. Every pitch a musical instrument plays has a core frequency measured in hertz Hzwhich can be likened to a speedometer reading for the waveform.

Hertz measures how many times i. At the theoretical limit, a human can hear from 20Hz to 20kHz 20, cycles. In reality, though, most human hearing tops out around 15kHz or 16kHz — the older you are, the less treble you can hear. There are also sounds called overtones, and an EQ will affect them, too.

The decibel dB is the unit of measurement used to express volume level or loudness. When you move a slider up or down on an EQ, you are increasing or decreasing the loudness of that particular frequency. Since decibels use a logarithmic scale, a 5 dB or 10 dB change represents a dramatic increase or decrease to a particular frequency band. Finally, the fun part! Almost any pro sound engineer will tell you the first thing you want to try with EQ is to decrease the level of a frequency, rather than increase others around it.

You may notice that it takes a moment after making an adjustment to hear the result. This is normal. For instance, if you want more bass and treble in general, you can pull down some of the midrange sliders, then boost the volume a bit and see what you think of the result. Not exactly right? You might want to start with a preset, then customize it until it is just right. This can help you understand what different EQ settings can do for you.

Parametric EQs are tricky, involved, and not for the faint of heart or inexperienced user. With us so far? Turning the boost or gain knob up or down determines how much you are boosting or reducing your chosen frequency in decibels. Technically, bandwidth and Q are defined differently in the wider scheme, but for our purposes, they may as well be one and the same. A wider Q affects a wider swath of frequencies, a narrower one offers more focused equalization.

When you turn the Q knob, you can see your frequency point swell or shrink. The complex control functions of the Pioneer SG are not limited merely to the equalisation of a simple program source, but can also provide precise tone corrections for the playback equipment turntable and tape deckspeakers and listening room. Musical program sources can also be modified to improve the sound of technically inferior recordings or to tailor them to suit your personal taste.

I've owned them all and nobody was more surprised than I was. It's quiet and the boost is linear so it doesn't get dramatically hotter the closer you get to the end points of the Faders. It's built like a tank. It's worth it to me to fix them, but if you don't like doing your own repairs, it's a fair criticism of an otherwise venerable design.

What you won't get with any of these EQ's is hushed murmurs of naked envy when they're viewed by the easily monetarily intimidated. They're not rare, commonplace or expensive. Just good. If you find one at a reasonable price, grab it and don't look back.
