Joined May 7, Threads 11 Messages My new ZTR Toro ss was delivered today. Totally different experience:tongue: That's another story.
I've read the manual forward and backward looking for the tire pressures and found 13 lbs for the rear tires but no mention of pressure for front tires.
Googled and found an array of pressures from 8 to 35 lbs the last figure was on a toro site. There was less than 10 in the front tires of my mower. Does anyone know the specs for the front tire air pressure or a recommendation for the tires front and rear.Log in or Sign up.

I have had trouble with the turf tires slipping when trying to do turns that require fast movement from forward to reverse as well as on the degree slope around my pool berm. They shocked me a few days ago when they would not hold the incline on dry grass at a relatively slow speed. I almost went into the lilac bush at the base of the berm. Is there a better tire available for use on these things? I have seen the Dixie Choppers in action and they are run at a much faster speed and sharper turn without problems.
BayratSep 11, Messages: 13, Ease up on the way you jam your sticks. Every mower can and will do this at some point in the right conditions. This will give you a significantly better ride and you will have much better traction. Just a little air out can make a huge difference. RunnerSep 12, Messages: 4, Wheel spin is It takes time and experience to learn proper operation, and thus reduce wheel spin. Also, remember, never point the nose of any ZTR downhill.
You will lose traction and slide. MowingmanSep 12, I will try the tire idea. Not running down hill is not too convenient, what should one do?
Back and forth requires it to head down at some point. I take credit for the spinning tires, just trying to eliminate that aspect. BayratSep 12, The most trouble for tire spinning is usually when you turn around. Always turn up the hill and then slowly reverse down turning slightly towards your next track and then continue. If you try and turn downhill you'll lose traction.Discussion in ' Lawn Mowing ' started by leeave96Jun 19, Log in or Sign up. Sign up now!

Messages: My Dad bought a Simplicity Consumer-Z zero turn mower and in the process of learning this new type of steering after about 40 years of a steering wheel - he is finding this machine has a tendency to spin the rear wheels when working a modest slope - bumpy yard. A bit of dew on the grass and it's very difficult at best to get traction. He thought that one of the benefits of a motor for each wheel, he would have in positive traction.
Prior to this purchase, he was considering a garden tractor with the positive traction pedel to help out with wheel slip. My question is - what are you doing with your zero turn mowers to minimize wheel slip?
I've read a lot of great things about these zero turn riders and can't recall anyone swapping one back the other way - to a garden tractor yet - but if things don't improve with this zero turn rider, that's what will happen. Any advice would be appreciated. Another thing that makes a big difference here is the tire pressure.
On the exmarks we run em at about psi max. If you air them up to the labled air specks you tend to slip alot and not get traction. Different mower i know, but just something to look into. Acute CutJun 19, Messages: 3, To get moving push BOTH levers at the same time and then back off on one to turn. I found that if I push just one it will tend to break loose.
Should keep both moving so to not tear grass anyway. Messages: 2, AFter all that, you may still want to switch to a wider dish wheel and more aggressive treaded tires. GeeVeeJun 19, Another tip for really steep hills is to up them forward and back down the really steep sections AndyinchvilleJun 19, If he can lock that front end, then most of his hillside traction problem would go away!
Also, you told him to mow across the hill - not up and down the hill.

Isn't that the opposite of what you meant to say? A couple of months ago there was a long discusion of the merits of pivoting front axels on Z's and how they could be a problem when used on hillsides.
As the wheel pivots upward a bit, the front downhill corner of the machine dives downward, and this makes the opposite REAR corner of the frame lift up just a bit. Of course when you lift this rear corner, and there is almost no weight on that rear tirethen it just spins on the turf. So this is the reason that I'm asking if there is any provision in this Simplicity to be able to lock up the front axel and make it rigid, cause I believe it's part of the solution to the hillside traction and wheel spinning problem they are having.Carlisle Super Lug Lawn \u0026 Garden Tires [Review]

Possibly a little bouncier that the pneumatic tire but the lack of aggravation will be worth it I believe. And it was a great price for good quality. Replaced the original tire on my Toro Zero turn and it fit perfectly.
I have had two flats in the last few months because of a ditch at my house, hitting it with the wheel turned sideways and breaking the seal. I have mowed it a few times since installing this tire and it works perfectly. I can't tell any difference in the ride or handling of the mower. I bought a pair of these, but have only replaced one at this point just to try it out.

Will replace the other one soon. After many punctures and flat tyres on my Toro ride-on TimecutterI decided to replace the castor wheels with flat free ones. These wheels fit my mower perfectly and are very good quality. We kept slipping front tires off rim on the hills with zero turn.
It was costly to keep repairing. These tires look factory but they handle hillsides great, alil rougher ride but not enough to warrant tire repairs all the time. These tire are must have on toro timecutter zero turn if you are on inclines much!

So have a good look at the corner profile of your tyres. Soft tres tend to grab better and tear more Hard tyres tend to leave grooves. Oher than that it is up to the driver. I'm running a Hustler Super Z HD and the recommended tire pressure for both front and rear tires is between 8 lbs to 12 lbs. I run 10 lbs in mine.
I mow average turf, if it was rough I would go down to to 8 lbs and if really smooth up to 12 lbs. Joined Sep 5, Threads 51 Messages 2, PS: Big improvement in ride 12 psi too, front tires call for 22 psi. Plus weight of the operator on the machine does make a difference in actual cut height as well.
